Best Things to do in Disney World
If you are planning a trip to the most magical place on earth, chances are you’ve heard there’s a lot of things to do there. In addition to the theme parks, Disney World also has water parks, shopping areas, resorts, miniature golf, water activities, and much more. With so much to see and do, how do you know what the best things to do in Disney World are? We’ll take a look at some of the best of the best — the things you simply must do at Disney.
Best Things to do in Disney World Theme Parks
Of course, the theme parks have some of the best things to do in Disney World. With attractions, shopping, dining, fireworks, and parades, there’s something for everyone. Let’s explore some of the best things to do when you’re in the theme parks.
Fireworks at Disney World are something to see. We absolutely adore the different fireworks shows in the different parks. Make sure to watch these shows at least once if you can. Our favorite fireworks show? It’s a really hard choice, but if we had to pick just one, we would have to pick IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth at Epcot. This show includes awe-inspiring fireworks and an amazing musical score. Be sure to get seats around the World Showcase Lagoon or make dining reservations at restaurants like Rose & Crown early to get the best view of the fireworks display.
One of the best things to do in Disney World is catch a parade. Disney is known for their fun and colorful parades. Our pick for the best parade? It’s got to be the Festival of Fantasy parade in the Magic Kingdom. The floats feature the Disney princesses, Peter Pan and the gang, Mickey and Minnie, and an amazing fire-breathing version of Maleficent from Cinderella that breathes real fire. If you’re worried about getting a good seat, check out the Festival of Fantasy dining package that includes VIP seating and lunch.
It goes without saying that attractions are some of the best things to do in Disney World. And, no Disney trip is complete without getting in a lot of attractions. Here are some of our favorites, but is by no means a full list of all the must-do’s, you must do!
- Haunted Mansion
- Pirates of the Caribbean
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
- Peter Pan’s Flight
- Test Track
- Spaceship Earth
- Frozen Ever After
- Star Tours
- Tower of Terror
- Rockin’ Roller Coaster
- Great Movie Ride
- Kilimanjaro Safari
- Expedition Everest
- Avatar Flight of Passage
- Primeval Whirl
You need food to stay fueled throughout the day at the Disney Parks. And, luckily, there’s some pretty tasty options for you and our family to enjoy. Plus, Disney offers some of the best dining experiences in the world, with themed restaurants and character dining. Here are some of the best dining options in the theme parks.
Be Our Guest Restaurant (Magic Kingdom):
Ever dreamed of dining in a castle? If you’re looking for a great meal and impressive atmosphere, you simply have to dine at Be Our Guest Restaurant in Fantasyland. You have the option to dine in three uniquely themed rooms. Don’t forget to ask for the Grey Stuff (really!), it’s delicious.
Tusker House (Animal Kingdom):
Ever wondered what it would be like to enjoy an African inspired meal? Tusker House offers a buffet breakfast, lunch, and dinner with unique flavors and classic theme park food favorites. Plus, it’s a character meal, which means you’ll get to meet Donald Duck and his friends for a one-of-a-kind safari meal experience.
Sci-Fi Dine-In (Hollywood Studios):
Take a step back in time to classic 1950s drive-in theaters when you visit Sci-Fi Dine-In. This table service restaurant offers sandwiches, milkshakes, and all the classics you’d expect to get while watching a movie outside. And, you’ll feel like you’re outside as you dine in a classic convertible car and watch old Sci-Fi film clips.
Sunshine Seasons (Epcot):
Ever wondered what Disney does with the fruits and vegetables grows in the Land Pavilion at Epcot? If you grab a quick service meal at Sunshine Seasons at Epcot, you’ll find out. Many of the fruits and vegetables grown right there at Epcot are served at Sunshine Seasons.
Of course, don’t forget about snacks. One of the best things to do in Disney World (and one of our favorite things) is to enjoy freshly popped popcorn on Main Street U.S.A. in the Magic Kingdom or grab a Dole Whip in Adventureland in the Magic Kingdom. They are the perfect way to enjoy the theme parks.
Best Things to do in Disney World Outside of the Theme Parks
Disney has so much more to offer beyond the theme parks. And, some of the best things to do in Disney World are on Disney property outside of a park. While, we can’t list all of the best things to do, here are a few of the most popular ones.
Did you know that Disney World is home to two water parks? It can get really hot in Florida, so taking a day to enjoy a water park is a great way to relax and have fun. Plus, they both offer some really fun experiences. Ever wanted to learn to surf? Check out surfing lessons at Typhoon Lagoon. Want to go on an extreme water slide? Head to Summit Plummet at Blizzard Beach. You’ll find that the water parks are a great experience for the whole family.
If you love shopping, dining, movies, and great entertainment, Disney Springs is must-do. Disney Springs is a free outdoor shopping area with some of the best dining and shopping on Disney property. From family friendly shopping to upscale dining, there’s something for everyone. We recommend going to Disney Springs at least once on your Disney vacation. It’s easy to get to using Disney’s complimentary transportation system or by driving your own vehicle. Some of our favorites here? The Lego Store and the World of Disney are our favorites for shopping. Raglan Road Irish Pub, Blaze Pizza, and Art Smith’s Homecoming Kitchen are must-do’s for dining. And, if you’re looking to spend some time relaxing, why not go see a movie at the AMC theater located here?
Believe it or not, Disney offers not one but two miniature golf courses on Disney property. Both Winter Summerland and Fantasia Gardens offer multiple mini golf courses that are reasonably priced and fun. If you’re a Disney annual passholder, you can even get half price tickets. We love mini golf for a fun relaxing evening outside of the parks.
Did you know that you rent a pontoon, small water boat, or go fishing at Disney? If you love the water and want to spend some time relaxing, we recommend taking advantage of the water activities available. Water activities are available at locations like the Contemporary Resort and Polynesian Resort. Prices vary by water activity, but you can find something for all budgets and preferences.
One of the best things to do in Disney World is visit or explore the Disney Resorts. Each of the resorts has unique activities to offer guests. This includes nighttime movies, activities for children, culinary tours, and even cultural tours, depending on the resort. One of our favorites? We love going to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge to watch the animals at night using the night vision goggles. This is a complementary experience and free to anyone who visits the resort. How cool is that? Overall, you’ll find the resorts to offer some of the best experiences at Disney World.
