Our Top Magic Kingdom Secrets & Tips
There are so many secrets and tips for the Magic Kingdom theme park. And, we can’t possibly cover them all here. But, here are some of the best. These are the ones that help you maximize your time and make your experience at the Magic Kingdom just a little more special.
Shhh! Listen!: Sounds of the Magic Kingdom
This may be what the Ghost Host says to you at the Haunted Mansion in Liberty Square. But, his logic really does apply to just about anywhere you are in the park. If you see a phone, pick it up. If you’re in a shop, listen. You just might hear fun conversations. One of our favorites? The Chapeau, located on Main Street U.S.A. There’s a turn-of-the-century telephone located in this shop. Pick it up. If you do, you’ll hear conversations from an old party line. Neat, right? These kind of sound details are hidden throughout the park. Explore, and listen up!
Get a Haircut on Main Street U.S.A.
Did you know the Magic Kingdom is home to an actual Barber Shop? It’s true! The Harmony Barber Shop is a great place to get a simple haircut. And, it’s especially popular for little ones getting their first haircut. They even have a first haircut package for an even more memorable experience. You can make reservations or walk in for a one-of-a-kind barber shop experience. You might even see the Dapper Dans while you’re there too!
Head to Adventureland First: Touring Tip
If you’re visiting the Magic Kingdom, chances are you’ll want to go straight to Fantasyland or even turn right into Tomorrowland. But, for the lowest crowds, your best bet is to actually go to (or even through) Adventureland. Believe it or not, most people naturally go to the right. So, going to the left into Adventureland is a smart way to maximize your time and enjoy attractions.
Sights, Sounds, and Spit?: Adventureland is Full of Adventure
Disney is full of wondrous sights and sounds. But, did you know about the spitting camel in Adventureland? Directly next to the Magic Carpets of Aladdin is a very large camel. He might seem harmless. But, he randomly spits out water at guests walking by. If you don’t know, you just might be in for a wet surprise!
Tomb Sweet Tomb: A Tribute to Disney Pets
The Haunted Mansion is one of the most classic Disney attractions. And, most of us probably have seen the unique tombstones in front of the attraction. But, did you know there’s a pet cemetery too? This small little pet cemetery pays tribute to pets big and small. They even include a tombstone honoring the dog in the Haunted Mansion and Mr. Toad from the now extinct attraction, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride. Where do you find this pet cemetery? Look to the side of attraction as you exit. It’s located near Momento Mori gift shop and the Haunted Mansion exit and entrance area.
When to Visit Fantasyland: Touring Tip
Fantasyland is hands down one of the most popular lands in the park. With classic, family friendly attractions, it’s a must do on every visit to the Magic Kingdom. Because it’s so popular, wait times can be high. So, what’s the best time to actually visit? Most people actually go to Fantasyland first thing in the morning to avoid high wait times. But, lines can quickly go from low to fast in the morning. Your best bet? Go during the afternoon parade. Most people are either waiting to watch the parade, taking a lunch break, or have headed back to their resort to rest or for pool time. This makes it the perfect time to catch a few rides and avoid some of the crowds.
A Regal Companion: Ride Cinderella’s Horse on the Carousel
We love the hidden details that Disney puts into every attraction and every land that they build. Fantasyland is no exception. It’s filled with lots of detail and pays special tribute to one very special horse. The Prince Charming Regal Carousel is a classic attraction, perfect for guests of all ages. But, did you know that if you visit this attraction, you can actually ride Major, Cinderella’s horse? He’s a bit hidden. But, if you look closely, you’ll find him. Look for the carousel horse with a golden ribbon on his tail to experience an even more memorable carousel experience.
The Kiss Goodnight: Ending the Day in the Magic Kingdom
One of the most memorable and unique ways to experience the Magic Kingdom is seeing what’s known as the “Kiss Goodnight.” This is an unadvertised show that takes place around 30 minutes after the park attractions close. It’s located directly in front of the Cinderella Castle and includes the original dedication speech given by Roy Disney at the opening of the Magic Kingdom in 1971. Few actually experience the Kiss Goodnight. But, if you stick around long enough, you’ll be treated to a very memorable moment.
