Drive on in to the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant

The Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant has one of the most unique dining atmospheres found in Disney World. At the corner of Commissary Lane and the Streets of America, you will find the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant in Hollywood Studios. Adults will enjoy going back in time to visit a childhood of drive-in theaters, whereas, for most children, this will likely be a first-time experience. At the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant, you will enjoy a dinner and show that is out of this world!

As you walk inside the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant, it’ll almost feel as though you’ve actually stepped outside. An array of 50’s style, vintage convertibles is spread out underneath a starlit sky. Next, you’ll likely notice the theater screen in the center of the restaurant. Chances are, as you walk into the restaurant, a loop of science fiction movie clips will already be playing. With the tall, dark ceilings above you, the convertibles surrounding you, and the classic movie clips playing in front of you, it’s hard not to feel as though the clocks turned back a couple of decades.

Part of what makes the atmosphere so special is that your table is actually inside a convertible car. First, a classic car-hop will lead you to your car. Most cars sit about six people, with 3 rows of 2 seats. The rows are all facing forward, as if you were sitting in a real car. Next, you will see that your table is a shallow counter top located directly in front of your seat. It is not easy to move around or have a conversation while seated in the convertible. However, you will be able to have a clear view of the movie screen as well as the surrounding drive-in ambiance. At the same time, there is a selection of picnic tables and low-level tables and chairs at the rear of the theater. These tables are more conversation-friendly and are perfect for those who prefer more elbow-room while eating.

The menu contains a variety of American Cuisine food options. First, there are numerous appetizers to choose from. For example, Fried-Dill Pickles, a Sci-Fi Salad, and Crispy Onion Rings are a few of the appetizers on the menu. However, you’ll want to make sure that you leave plenty of room for your main course! There are countless, delicious entrees, and there is something for everyone. Whether you want a meal on the lighter side, a burger, or seafood, you will find just what you’re looking for. For instance, the Vegetarian Shepherd’s Pie, the Sci-Fi Angus Burger, and the House-smoked St. Louis-style Pork Ribs are just some of the many entrees available. Of course, there is a special menu just for children as well. Popcorn Chicken, Macaroni and Cheese, and Whole-wheat Penne Pasta are a few of the kid favorites.

Drinks and Dessert

Make sure you don’t fill up on the main course, because The Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant is probably most well-known for its milkshakes. Specialty shakes include Chocolate, Vanilla, and Oreo. The Orbiting Oreos is a special milkshake just for adults. The Oreo flavored milkshake is made with Godiva Chocolate Liqueur and is decorated with a glow-in-the-dark ice cube. Adults can also choose between a variety of other specialty cocktails such as The Long Island Lunar Tea or the Magical Star Cocktail. Craft beers are available, too. Don’t worry. Kids won’t miss out on the fun! They can enjoy a Glowing Character Punch which features a glow-in-the-dark character light. If you aren’t full at the end of your meal, you will definitely want to indulge in dessert. Out-of-this-world Cheesecake, a House-made Sci-Fi Candy Bar, and a Warm Glazed Doughnut are just some of these mouth-watering desserts.

Sci-Fi Theater

While you are enjoying your delicious food and drink, vintage science fiction movie scenes will be playing on the screen. Zombies, aliens, robots, and mummies will be thrilling and chilling you as you eat. Some favorites include Plan 9 From Outer Space and The Amazing Colossal Man. Don’t worry about being too scared though. These movie clips are cheesier and silly than they are scary. Also, every once in awhile Walt Disney appears on the screen, helping to lighten the scene. The film plays in about a 40 minute loop. Therefore, no matter when you enter the restaurant, you will likely see at least each part of the movie once during your meal.

Reservations and Information

The Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant is one of the few restaurants that will remain open throughout the construction of Toy Story Land and Star Wars Land. It is always important to make dining reservations when visiting Disney World. However, it’ll be even more important during construction, as dining options are limited. Tables and booths are assigned at arrival. Although, if you would like to place a specific reservation, you can do so in advance.
